10 SEO KPIs That You Should Check Everyday

You have a beautifully designed website but what good does it bring if it won’t give you tangible results? With the help of SEO Key Performance Indicators (KPI), you can now measure the success of your digital marketing efforts through the following metrics:

1. Organic Sessions – this is one of the most important metrics you should be monitoring to assess your site’s performance for it shows you how much traffic it gets at any given time. A drop in session is a clear indication that something has to be fixed while a stable increase is a good indicator of success.

2. Keyword Rankings – is the positioning of specific keywords or phrases in different search engines. It is an essential KPI because it is the first entry point to achieve other primary objectives in terms of driving traffic, leads, and sales, all directly correlates with SEO success. The higher your site ranks for high volume keywords, the better.

3. Leads/Conversions – The first two KPIs relate to attracting visitors to your site from search engines but to make it highly converting, you would want to generate a lead that will eventually convert into a sale. To improve results for this KPI, put a focus on conversion rate optimization (CRO) and user experience (UX).

4. Bounce Rate – is the number of visitors who leave the website immediately without doing any further action. If it is high and the time spent on the site is low, this could indicate that there might have been something that’s pushing them away. This can either be the content, design, or copy but most of the time, this is due to the incoherent meta description copy. If a person visits your website out of the meta description displayed on your webpage then, later on, discovered that you were talking about something else or the content is irrelevant when they reached your homepage, they will most likely exit it in no time, hence resulting to high bounce percentage. If that happens, you should start looking and work on your content.

5. Pages Per Session – is a simple metric that measures, on average, how many pages users visit during a session. As with other behavioral metrics, it also indicates the value/quality of your webpage and how users navigate through it.

To get a possibly high rate, make sure that your customers know where everything is on your website by having an intuitive design, properly labeled buttons, and clear call to action.

6. Average Session Duration – is another useful KPI to give you insights about the behavior of users once they get to your website. If you have a high Average Session Duration, people are likely spending a lot of time engaging with your content otherwise, you likely have a problem that might be due to bad or irrelevant content if you have a low average duration.

7. Page load time – is the average amount of time it takes for a page to load on your screen. This is also a KPI that greatly affects other KPIs. If your webpages take too long to load, the user will most likely exit your page immediately, hence affecting your bounce rate and pages per session as well as your conversion. Ideally, your pages need to load in under 3 seconds to keep visitors on your site.

8. Top Exit Pages/Exit Rate – is the last page visited by a user before ending the session, closing the tab or browser, or searching for a new website. It also refers to the number of times a visitor has left a site from a specified page. If you have a high exit rate for a page that is not intended to be an exit page, optimizations are needed in user experience and Conversion Rate Optimization

9. Crawl Errors – are issues encountered by search engines as they try to access your webpages. These errors prevent search engine bots from reading your content and indexing your pages.
If you see a spike in crawl errors, you’ll want to take immediate action especially if the crawl errors are at the server level.

10. Search Visibility – SEO visibility is a metric that tells you what percentage of all possible organic clicks a website is getting for a given keyword. This can help you track how many impressions it can get in any search that uses your relevant core keyword and see how much you dominate the share of search results.

These are just some of the KPIs that you might want to consider monitoring on a daily basis if you want to yield optimal results for all your SEO related efforts, leaving your homepage a fully functional and highly converting site.
